I was trying to think what would be the most useful drink to recommend over Christmas. Sloe - and damson - gin are favourites but there’s nothing as useful as an orange liqueur.

What a way to kick off a meal: potato beignets with anchovy mayo and parmigiano reggiano. Then two exemplary main courses, cod and mussels with curried crab sauce (a bit like a mouclade) and pork schnitzel with brown butter capers and (more) anchovies. Not many restaurants have main courses that are as good as their starters but @1yorkplace_bristol is one of them. I’ve been complaining that cookbooks only give recipes for four when most people I suspect cook for two. But is this a dish for 2 or 4? I’m inclined to think you need 2 chicken thighs per person but many would be satisfied with 1 and some might want 3. Appetites vary hugely plus it depends what else you’re serving.
